Moalboal
is a quiet, international community. People from all over
the world chose Moalboal, especially Panagsama Beach,
as their second home. It's a healthy mixture of beach
resorts, restaurants, bars and private residences owned
by foreigners and locals.
Moalboal
has several big advantages other sites don't have:
- Living
at the sea - healthy coral reefs with plenty opportunities
forfishing, boating, diving & snorkeling
- Mixed
population - foreigners and Filipinos living together
in an open village (no foreigner-ghettos)
- Reasonable
property prices - ranging from 10-30$ per m2
- Very
reasonable living costs
- Peaceful
community
- No
boredom - mix of beach resorts, bars (sorry, no go-go
bars), restaurants, all visited by travelers (mostly
divers) and expatriates
- Sports
& Activities - chose from action activities like
river climbing, rappelling, horseback riding, or join
regular soccer games on Monday and Fridays, everybody
is welcome.
- Proximity
to Cebu City - it takes you 2 ½ hours to go
to Cebu City for major shopping and nightlife.
There
are also some disadvantages:
- Medical
Care - the next hospital is in Badian, a 20-minute
ride from Moalboal. It's a government hospital and
provides only very basic health services. For serious
health matters you have to go to Cebu City.
- No
shopping malls - there is the typical Filipino market
in Moalboal town where you can buy food and other
basic items for your daily life. If you like shopping
malls, imported food, cinemas, fashion boutiques and
similar amenities, you have to go to Cebu City.
- Cable
TV - it's a little bit more expensive to get your
50+ channels: you have to purchase a satellite dish,
which costs you about 15,000 Pesos. Monthly fee is
about 550 Pesos.
- Internet
connection - since Panagsama Beach has wireless telephone
connections, Internet access is mostly restricted
to about 8000 - 14400 bps
